Even a good knife will lose some of its sharpness with time. While honing steels only straighten a fine edge knife, a Ceramic sharpening rod can actually sharpen a fine edge knife through the removal of steel. The same actions used on a regular honing steel are effective at defining a new edge when using a Ceramic rod. Ceramic materials are delicate and can be damaged if mistreated or dropped.
